At Wachusett Regional High School I taught three Art Foundation courses and two Clay I courses. Art Foundations consists mainly of freshman and all students are required to take this course to graduate. This is where students are introduced (or reintroduced) to the basics of multiple art forms, such as still life drawing, portraits, water color painting, charcoal drawing, cardboard, printmaking, sculpture, and much more. Once students complete Art Foundations they can choose any art elective to pursue.
In Ceramics I students are introduced to the basics of hand building clay projects. Projects I have taught are clay rattles, coil vases, prized possession slab boxes, and plate forms. We practiced building, function, and multiple surface techniques such as dipping, painting, layering, and transferring. Students that successfully complete this course can move on to the more advanced Ceramics II and get a chance to use the pottery wheel.
